To be recognized as a lifeguard you have to pass a Lifeguard Training Class held by the American Red Cross. Upon successful completion of the class you receive ARC lifeguard certs (certificate of a Lifeguard and First aid valid for 3 years and a certificate of CPR/AED valid for 1 year only). To be eligible for lifeguard training class you have to first pass Precourse session.
Precourse consists of:
Eventhough the precourse session might seem tough to someone, so far all contestants passed this test (girls included).
Dates of the precourse session will be sent to all registered candidates on their email address. There is usually 1 Precourse session per 2 weeks.
Notice: those interested in beach lifeguard position must meet all requirements set by the employer (e.g. time limit 10 minutes for 500m).
Videos from precourses can be found in gallery...
Lifeguard training course (LGT) is a next step towards receiving desired certificates that follows passing the precourse session. LGT represents approximately 30 hours of intensive lecture in the classroom and in the swimming pool. The class part (20 hours) will start with basic information about lifeguarding, precautions at work, emergency action plan and will focus more on Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First aid.
The pool part will focus at the beginning on basic in-water lifesaving techniques (active and passive drowning scenarios) and will end up with the cream of the top - deep water back-boarding (situations with head, back or neck injuries).
Each candidate will be evaluated throughout the course and must pass final practical tests (final scenarios) from lifesaving techniques in water and on land (CPR, water rescues...). There are also 3 written theoretical tests in English language divided into Lifeguarding, CPR and First aid. There is no time limit and vocabulary is allowed. During the LGT we lay stress on personal approach, since each candidate is equipped with different physical shape and is on a different English comprehension level.
Everyone who successfully completes the whole course will receive his/her certificates before his/her flight to USA. Lifeguard Training and First Aid is valid 1 year from date of completion and CPR/AED is valid 1 year only.
Every participant receives a sweat-shirt, t-shirt, fanny pack, resuscitation mask, whistle, vinyl gloves and ARC Lifeguarding skill sheets. This all is already included in the price of the training!!!

The Pool Operator course serves for better understanding of the principles of pool functioning, pool volume and flow-rate calculations, filtration of the pool water, pool disinfection, chemical balance of the pool, rules and regulations for safety at work... The Pool Operator course takes approximately 14 hours and leads to a final test in English language from the subject taught throughout the whole day.
All candidates completing the course successfully will receive a Pool Operator certificate from American Lifeguard Association valid 2 years from the date of completion. Holder of a such certificate is entitled to be compensated with a higher pay-rate by his employer then a regular lifeguard.
The course takes place in several different dates here in the Czech Republic and is already included in the price of the Lifeguard Training !!!
